2009 Competition Logistics

Welcome to Nashville!

The 2009 Competition weekend will be a busy one in Nashville, as Vanderbilt homecoming and several major conferences will also be taking place that weekend. We ask that you be aware of your surroundings as you enjoy our city, and that you also allow ample time to travel to all destinations.

If you plan on staying an extra night, please visit Vanderbilt University's Nashville information website for ideas on what to do. We will also include a guide to Nashville in your welcome packets, and as always, the Owen Leadership team and Ambassadors are happy to give you tips on local hotspots.

Transportation & Hotel Information

All teams are responsible for their own travel arrangements.
•    Please ensure that your travel arrangements allow you to be at Vanderbilt by 8:30 a.m. on Friday morning for the Welcome & Kick-off. This will likely require your team to arrive on Thursday night.
•    The competition officially ends at 3:00 pm on Saturday.  Do not book a flight that departs before 4:30 pm on Saturday.

Hotel:
•    A block of rooms has been reserved for Case Competition participants at a rate of $119 per night.  Be sure to ask the front desk for “in-house reservations” and reference the Owen Graduate School/Human Capital Case Competition when making your reservation.  Please note that reservations should have been made (or cancelled) by September 25, 2009, per Holiday Inn Express policy.
•    Holiday Inn Express
(Downtown Nashville, Corner of 10th and Broadway)
     920 Broadway, Nashville, TN 37203
     (615) 244-0150

Air:
•    Nashville International Airport (BNA) is the closest airport.

  • Most major air carriers fly into BNA (AA, Continental, Delta, Frontier, Northwest, Southwest, United, US Air).

Ground Transportation:
•    Transportation to/from the airport:

  • The flat rate for a taxi from the airport to the Holiday Inn Express is $25.
  • SuperShuttle will take you directly to your hotel for $15 per person.  You can make a reservation online (www.supershuttle.com) or, after arriving at the airport, make a reservation at the SuperShuttle desk in the baggage claim/ground transportation area (you do not have to make a reservation in advance).
  • Most major rental car companies, including Alamo, Avis, Budget, Dollar, Enterprise, Hertz, and National, are convenient to the Nashville airport.

•    From the hotel to Owen Graduate School of Management:

  • Friday and Saturday mornings – Transportation, originating from the Holiday Inn Express, will be provided to Owen.
  • Friday afternoon – Due to the staggered schedule, teams are responsible for their own transportation back to hotels on Friday afternoon.  (Parking at Vanderbilt is extremely limited. It is suggested that you take a short 1.2-mile taxi ride back to the Holiday Inn Express.)
  • Friday night – Transportation from the Holiday Inn Express will be provided to/from the Friday night downtown social.  (This event is within walking distance from the hotel if you would prefer to walk and take in the downtown Nashville scene.)
  • Saturday morning – Transportation will be provided from the hotel to Owen.
  • Saturday afternoon – Transportation will be provided from Owen back to the Holiday Inn Express at the end of the awards ceremony.
  • Detailed transportation times will be provided next week.
